NEW MEMBERS

New members who are not Fire Arms Certificate, F.A.C. holders or members of other gun clubs are not allowed to handle guns or ammunition on their first visit.

a) They must sign the visitor’s book to prove attendance on the first visit.

b) They are given an application form to fill in.

c) This form can be returned a minimum 48 hours later.

If correctly completed and the entry fee paid, the probationary member can receive instruction and shoot.
More usually it will be 7 days i.e. Wednesday to Wednesday.
The membership secretary routinely takes up all references in due course.

A red Probationary Member Card is issued when the entry fee is paid.

d) The probationary period is 6 months.

Full time students, up to the age of 25,will only pay half the full entry fee and annual subscription fee.

Novice new members must shoot on a Wednesday only until adjudged competent. They can also shoot on Mondays or Fridays provided they do not disturb competition shooters.

New members who are members of, or have just left, another gun club can join without the 6-month probationary period, subject to a satisfactory reference from the other club and a second independent referee. Proof of membership or past membership would be required.

AMMUNITION

A selection of suitable ammunition is available for purchase, however, unless you possess a current Firearms Certificate (FAC), any ammunition you purchase must not be removed from the Club premises. Put your name and date of purchase on the box and lodge it with the range officer before leaving the Club.

Failure to comply with this rule may lead to dismissal from the Club and could result in prosecution by the Police. Any conviction of this type will almost certainly prevent you from gaining an FAC at a later date.

All ammunition sold for safe keeping on this range is sold on the understanding that it is used within a period of three months. Any ammunition unused after that period may be disposed of to the best advantage of the Club.

Hunting or High Velocity ammunition is prohibited on this range.

MEMBERS HOLDING THEIR OWN F.A.C.

It is a good idea to have your ammunition purchases entered on your certificate even if you use the ammunition within the club or leave it on the club premises. This proves to the authorities your need to have the facility to hold ammunition on your F.A.C.

You must ensure that the amount entered actually held at home or in transit does not excede the quantity permited on your F.A.C.

Visitors

Members of the public cannot shoot as visitors. We do not operate a day membership scheme.
If a visitor can produce a current F.A.C. or proof of a current membership of another rifle club, he or she can shoot as a visitor.

RELATIONS OR FRIENDS OF MEMBERS

If they do not hold an F.A.C. or not have a membership of another rifle club, they cannot shoot at Wellington Road, unless they join as a probationary member under terms as set out in the New Members section.

AIR GUNS

Any air gun used in this range must not exceed the energy limits allowed under the current legislation, unless the owner/user is in possession of a current Fire Arms Certificate issued by the appropriate police authority permiting the use.

If required by an authorised officer of the Club, a certificate stating the energy of the air gun shall be produced for inspection. Tests can be carried out by Chichester Armoury, West Street, Chichester

INSURANCE COVER

The Club is insured for third party liability covering all members, probationary members, official visitors, and teams expressly invited by the Club or one of its members.

Personal accident cover for bodily injury sustained during a shooting activity, and all risks cover to full members shooting equipment is covered under a separate policy underwritten through the NSRA. This insurance is only available to members aged 12 to 80 years and various financial limits apply.

The shooting equipment of official visitors or teams is not covered.

Loss or damage to personal clothing and effects is not covered.

Vehicles are parked at owner’s risk.

COMPETITION SHOOTING

In the summer and winter season there is the opportunity to enter team league postal competitions in the various associations to which the Club belongs, (all of which are shot on our range). We enter teams of 4 or 5, comprising shooters selected by their current averages. All levels of ability are catered for and entries to these leagues are free to members.

Notices will be displayed for you to select which competitions you wish to enter, around April for the summer leagues, and September for the winter leagues. For each league that you enter, you will be required to shoot 2 or 3 cards in a 3 or 4-week period. Most cards that are placed in your rack will have a “shoot by” date in the top right hand corner.
Once shot, match cards have to be signed by the shooter and then witnessed and dated by the range officer or club official.

In the winter season there is the opportunity to enter individual postal competitions (entry fees are payable).

Please ensure that your cards are shot in the correct sequence.
Divisional team captains will be allocated for each team and they will be pleased to assist with any queries.

New shots please have your practice cards marked and the scores entered on the new shots score sheet.

Throughout the year we also hold Club shoots at Wellington Road, Fittleworth and at Bisley Ranges, all members are welcome. The shoots are arranged on a class or handicap system, so all entrants have a chance of winning.

There are also many outdoor competitions, mainly 50/100 yard/metres.

Notices for all competitions will be displayed in the Clubroom.
